Robots

This is just one of the robots I am working on. Inspired by a design in a pattern book I borrowed from the local national library.

It's almost a year since opening a store at Zazzle. I have come to admire those who churn out designs constantly, twice weekly, weekly or (gasp) daily. Most of my designs were completed in two weeks as soon as I pinned down an idea. The problem with me was coming up with ideas. There wasn't any problem couple years back in completing a photo manipulating piece for an online competition site within a week.  I guess it's easier when you have some limitations and constraints to working within with. So much harder when given free reign. Design whatever you want. The problem is I don't know what I want. lol...

Anyway, half way through working on the robots I got distracted. Started thinking about my travel itinerary for the first quarter of 2016. Trying to work Angkor Wat into a tight budget. :)
Time to turn my attention back to the rest of the robots.

Double happiness

This design is  a Chinese character
It is actually made up of two characters. 喜(xi - which means happy) and 喜 (xi). Hence 囍 (also pronounced as xi) are sometimes translated as double happiness or 双喜 (shuang Xi).
It is a character often used as a symbol of marriage. Which explains the hearts I embedded into the character. The two interlocked hearts symbolize tying the knot or the rings if you like. :)

"Macro Lens"

I bought a second hand CSC (compact system camera) also known as mirrorless recently. My first interchangeable lens camera. Aside from eating up my 4gb memory cards in no time I also realized that my previous point and shoot can take macros while my CSC can't with the kit lens. Too broke to get myself a macro lens I googled "can you take macro photos without a macro lens" which brought me to this youtube clip ----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejvTVjWq_t4

Wow! A secret! I had to test it out!
Look!! :O

A flower in the pond.

Went through some of my photos this evening. This photo was taken back in 2013 with my old camera.
I was going to titled this Lotus (not very original I know lol.) but not sure if this flower was in fact a lotus flower. After all not all flowers in the pond are lotus. haha...So I settled for "A flower in the pond" after a little editing and post it onto Society6 (S6).

Received the tote I ordered from S6 last Tuesday. It took about 7 working days and no tracking. I am very happy with the print. :) I have the pictures. Maybe I will post them later.

Update

I am gutting my old Fujitsu laptop. Wanted to sell the whole thing but have no idea how to properly clean the hard drive. So I am gutting it and selling the parts on ebay. Probably just the Ram and keep the hard drive...for what reason I don't know. hahaha...

Cats and Dogs

I am not a cat person nor a dog person. It irritates me when people call their dogs their children. Seriously? lol
If I had to choose one, I probably will go for a cat. They are cute and independent. Just don't come bringing me dead rats!!
Sketched an unhappy cat today. hahaha...

Playing with food again!

Can you tell what this is? It's a slice of lemon after some editing with photoshop. Pulled out the blue coming through the kitchen window behind the slice of lemon. Dodged the darker left side and on the tiny bubbles to make them more noticeable.

The colors had me mesmerized. And it has that eerie, alien like feel about it, doesn't it?  Or it could be just me. lol..

And have you ever notice there are actually air bubbles in a lemon or any fruit for that matter? I never did. I know, like who cares right? hahaha...

I added the frame via google+. Neat eh?
Love those blue.  :)

The root of Lotus

I have been operating a store on Zazzle for about 8 or 9 months now. Just loading my artworks onto the large amount of products has been REALLY time consuming. And when I just  mass created and spent over an hour customizing each of the product, it's frustrating to be hit with with a system problem and all my effort and time wasted...like it just happened. :(

I wasn't exactly looking for another P.O.D (print on demand) site for my artworks (just yet), but the international postage for zazzle's products could be too high for some of my customers who lived outside of the United States. So I went through all the P.O.D sites that I had joined but had not been active on to check out the shipping rates. I loaded two artwork onto Society6 and really appreciate how easy and considerable less time consuming comparing to Zazzle the site is. Most important of all...lol...it doesn't require you to have a minimum earning before they pay you. It doesn't allow much customizing which doesn't necessary translate to be a bad thing. I feel like I can put my signature on the artwork on Society6 because it's entirely my art that people's buying. Of course I could always lock my work over at Zazzle too but customizing is a big deal over there.

Anyway, the first entirely new artwork that I posted on Society6 happens to be a cross-section of the root of the lotus plant. Love how it turned out. The colors just cut through the melancholy I have been feeling all month long. :)
I uploaded to Zazzle after too.

My little Newton.

Karma

So I finished the Karma artwork over the weekend. Sooner than I had thought. First time I added shadows on any artwork made for Zazzle . When I first joined Zazzle I had only designing t-shirts on my mind and I was a little concerned on how the shadows might show on the shirts especially on colored ones. So I go ahead  without the shadows to keep things simple. Then I discovered other products that could use a little bit more details and perhaps a background to make it looked more polished, expensive and complete. Do I make any sense?

I really love how this little Isaac or little Newton turned out. :)

Some years back I'd posted on my fb statues :
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I call that Karma.
I remembered this entry few months ago and decided to make some kind of typography of the text. Supposed to be simple. Supposed to be a simple outline of Newton's head and his curls. But ... somehow it developed into this. lol..

karma
This one I was fighting with the curls. Deciding how to depict them. Not wanting them to be too realistic. I loaded this onto fb to show to a friend who had some tough time with some mean people. lol...

This is the final sketch I used with illustrator.
And here's the page where you can see the artwork on the products. ---> LINK

And below are a iphone6 plus case &  t-shirts I have it on.

Re-visiting the symbol of wealth and properity... :p

The fish I had designed way back the beginning of 2015 (or end of 2014) for the Chinese new year when I first opened a store with Zazzle. Fish, for the Chinese,  is a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Here's a link to the earlier post if you are interested. Link

Here I have put in water bubbles for my pretty goldfish. I have put in bubbles. Sounded so simple and I had thought it would be . hahaha... the fact was I spent the whole of the last evening (before I knew it) trying to get the bubbles in just the right positions in just the right sizes. I worked with illustrator first because it was easier to move the bubbles around and then I moved to work on zazzle itself because I wanted to see how it looked directly on the products. Ended up piling layers of bubble of different sizes on the customize page...just like with "The moon does it all the time". LOVE the result! <3

I ditched my original plan to put in Japanese waves because I believe the simple bubbles background will bring out the beauty of the Goldfish more. Okay I lied. I had forgotten about the Japanese waves until I re-read my earlier post moments ago. LOL.  What do you think? Really. What do you think of the bubbles? :)

Oh is it gold fish or goldfish by the way? :p

Straight from the oven. Had just worked on the light color t-shirt with black lettering. Probably will create some black or dark color t-shirts with white lettering later :)

The logic of the heart is absurd!

My karma artwork is almost finished. And I had a little fun with a "body part" of it. hehe...
Bet you can't read what's written on the right.

The moon does it all the time - 2

Having a procrastination episode. Supposed to be working on the Karma artwork for my "AmayeZeen" store. The photos of the sketches (my scanner had died from exhaustion so I am using my camera) already uploaded and waiting for me to work on since last evening.  Instead I played with the Moon artwork a little and tadah...I think I love this version the best...so far! hehehe ...Okay...now back to the Karma artwork...:(

The Moon does it all the time - 1 :)

Last evening I was looking through my travel photos and remembering the waves once again. I was at the famous Pandai Cenang beach of Langkawi. Though I ended up not particularly liking Langkawi itself, I love some of the the photos I took. lol..
Anyway, I wanted to have a quote to go with one of my beach photos and found this.
Don't worry if you are making waves simply by being yourself. The moon does it all the time.      ~Scott Stabile~
And then I wanted a moon to go with the quote but didn't have the patient to find a photo over the internet that's free for commercial use. So I made one with photoshop using photo of some kind of texture. Love the result. I guess I have a thing for purple. hahaha...

Ji Xiang (Auspicious) Design

I went through my blog stats and found that I got a good number of  hits on my Year of the sheep (Ladies Tshirt) and Year of the sheep (Men Tshirt) entries. I remember it was quite close to the Chinese new year when I worked on this design. In the end I didn't have it on all the products because I was busy with the cleaning (well, sort of), and working on my travelling plan. Perhaps it's time to tweak the design a little like removing the words on the bottom, though interested buyers can always remove it themselve by hitting the customize button. Or removing the sheep (though a sheep will always be a sheep on the chinese character in any year :p) It's really a design that's not just for the year of the sheep. It's an auspicious word.

Anyway, Zazzle has changed the models since and I've just changed the models showing off the design because I thought they do the job better than the one zazzle replaced them with. And this is the page with the design on all the products I had the design on. :)

I DON'T really intend to live forever. Seriously!! :p

I am a little depressed.
Perhaps an understatement. lol..I described it as black mood to a friend who wanted to go out yesterday.
Perhaps it has to do with cutting coffee from my diet for the past week. I went from 3 cups a day to none. Drastic huh? But I still have my caffeine fix...from tea.  Not the same thing probably. :p

Anyway, I opened two more stores with Zazzle. Named it AcardZeen (for cards) and AcrazInn (for my crazy designs). I realized that with my first store, things are moving too slow. Everything has to be perfect before I could bring myself to post it for sale. With the two new stores I intend to have some fun and stop being so serious, and less T-shirt focus.

Something I did today while sitting in the library trying to fight off my black mood.

Be you!

Be you!
Being me for me means to stop minding what will the others think of what I am going to do, will be doing or thinking of doing. Or what I wear, how I wear and the choices that I make and etc etc and etc.
Basically to dance like nobody's watching, sing like nobody's listening when there's somebody watching and listening. You get what I mean?
We shouldn't really make choices/decisions, doing or not doing things base on the opinions or likes or dislikes of other people. That's not to say forgoing basic courtesy and the other rules and laws that are necessary to living in harmony with the rest of the human race sharing planet earth. I know it's a balancing act of some sort but craving or wanting the approval of others which is not at all in your control is madness. After all, what the others think is really none of our business. Especially of strangers'.

My pet pink elephant!

It's the pink elephant syndrome
I first heard of this syndrome back in the 90s...I think. I was very into the self-help everything then. My life was a mess....still is unfortunately. lol..

Anyway, this syndrome says that: It's not possible to tell yourself NOT to think of something. Try imagine an elephant. A pink elephant. Now, try NOT to think of the cute pink elephant. What happened? You think of the cute pink elephant. hahaha....

Well, in early April I was wrestling with my brain again. It kept having thoughts and memories I very much preferred deleted popping up. Frustrated I wrote on my FB status: I have a pet. It's a pink elephant. (referring to the pink elephant syndrome).  And that's how this design of the charm came by.  lol....

Have duct tape will travel

Have duct tape will travel!
Few months ago, in Jogjakarta, I met a swedish girl in a hostel where we were staying.
She was already on the road for 4 months or so at the time and was lauding the usefulness of a duct tape one evening while mending her backpack with the miracle tape.
To be frank, a duct tape had never been on my pre-travel check list before. I remember sitting on the toilet of my hostel sewing my waist pouch that had torn opened at the top one very early morning in Bangkok the year before, not wanting to switch on the light in the shared room and disturbed the other travellers.  Now if I had duct tape, it would have simplified things.
No more fear of broken shoes, ripped clothing and fallen hem. Duct tape to the rescue!
On my next trip, which will be the coming late Feb, you bet I won't leave home without the duct tape! ;)

Year of the Sheep 2015. (Ladies T-shirt)

Five days off the dateline I set for myself, but I completed the final design for the Chinese New Year (CNY) 2015.
This is a chinese character 祥 (xiang), meaning auspicious.
The character is made of two parts.  On the left is 礻and  right 羊.
羊 (yang) means sheep and you can see why I had placed the adorable sheep in from of the word 羊.
I don't believe I have ever drawn a sheep in my life until now. And I was determined to have at least one design with a sheep. After all, 2015 is the year of the sheep.
I started this and had to set it aside and work on the Fish design because I was stuck and had difficulty completing it.
Anyway, look at it now! I love it!!
What's left is to get the design onto cards and the other products! :)

Lunar New Year Greeting Card!!

Tah dah!! CNY greeting card!!
What's a Chinese new year without a bright red greeting card!

Fish(鱼) when pronounced in Chinese is yú which is identical to the word  (yu) means extra, more than enough or surpluses. Fishes therefore symbolize abundance, wealth and prosperity. The four Chinese characters underneath the fish 年年有余 (nian nian you yu) is often used during the Chinese New Year to wish everyone an abundant of wealth each and every year.

Another fish!

Decides to tilt the fish further and sell this as a separate design after my last post.
I know customers could customize the products themselves on Zazzle, but I just want to see this in my store and I couldn't choose which one of the designs. lol..
A reminder: I designed this fish for the Chinese New Year, but you can wear it daily. Just remove the "CNY 2015" if you prefer, or just leaving it there. Or add some other text of your choice. :)

Fish, the symbol of wealth and prosperity!

One design down, one more to go!
My original design included a Japanese sea/wave. But when I tried the design on a mock t-shirt last evening, I changed my mind. Maybe I will have the wave on one of those tote bags. I will think about that after I complete the last CNY 2015 design, hopefully by 15 Jan.
